All the world’s a stage, and that stage’s name is South Africa.
For 4 weeks beginning Friday, the world’s attention focuses on the daily soccer matches in South Africa for the World Cup. A brief escape from the oil spill, economic woes, and earthquake rebuilding. All the visitors to S. Africa have at least one thing in common, the love for “the beautiful game” as they call it. And for just a little while the arguments are about goals and referee’s calls, not economic and political problems. There’s nothing quite like being in a country that is watching their team play in a World Cup match. When something happens, the entire country cries out in unison. It’s amazing.
Unfortunately, a lot of us can’t sit in front of a TV, and a lot of companies are blocking streaming video since this event is just crushing worldwide productivity! So we’ve highlighted 3 great LiveBlogs that are posting near play-by-blay coverage on the games:
1. The Wall Street Journal did an excellent job live-blogging the Uruguay vs. France match today.
2. The Guardian UK’s got it covered.
3. Reuters has more good photos than most others.
Go enjoy the games, take some 90 minute breaks from your seething anger at BP and toast the world. I’ll be doing just that on Saturday afternoon and cheering on our boys as they play England. And yeah, I’ll be wearing my KMC shirt. And $5 from the sale of our My Country USA shirt will go to the Gulf Restoration Network.
Help us help them, and go USA!
