Last week we highlighted five celebrities whose eco activism saved the planet during 2009 – Mylie Cyrus, Ashley Judd, Ed Begley Jr., Edward Norton and Matt Damon.  This week we highlight Five To Watch Save The Planet In 2010.  Our five celebrities include a Grammy winning sensation from Columbia, a NASCAR driver, a Chinese martial artist and film star, a Hollywood beauty, and the head of a European royal family.   Enjoy – we look forward to hearing from them in 2010!

Shakira.  Shakira, you remind us that when you save a child, you save the world.  Education is the great equalizer and educated, healthy children grow up to save our planet.  It’s a profound message, and your work for the ALAS Foundation and UNICEF reminds us there’s work to do.  When you talk to world leaders, Shakira, we are in awe.  Your message – and determination – is clear; who can resist?  As you move from the music stage to the world stage we see great things for you.  Keep singing and keep showing your love.

Leilani Munter.  Leilani, our NASCAR racing Carbon Free Girl.  A vegetarian, a degree in biology, donating an acre of rainforest for each race, blogging for Huffington Post – you do it all.  What a year and we know this is the tip of the iceberg!  Thank you for showing how to balance the Green – and less Green – parts of our lives.  We know there’s much, much more to come.  All the best and we’ll be watching.  Start your engines.

Jet Li.  Beijing born, talented and famous  in martial arts, your One Foundation focuses on China.  Supporting grass roots efforts, knowing the power of many improves lives everywhere, we wish you great success in your home country.   Thank you for thinking Green and working with Tony Blair to promote solar lighting for remote villages in China, India and Africa.  Connecting the world while reducing greenhouse emissions – we really like your style!  Thank you for what you’ve done, and please do more.

Rachelle Carson Begley.  Rachelle’s husband, Ed, may play the title role on Living With Ed, but Rachelle’s the one to watch.  Gracious, gorgeous, dedicated to style and beauty, Rachelle’s taught us all how to live Green without going overboard, and knowing when to seek a moderate – and stylish – solution to a household challenge.  We know it hasn’t been easy; you’ve done a great job.  In her own right, Rachelle is the reigning queen of green fashion and green decorating in Hollywood.  Could ‘Living With Rachelle’ be in the works for Planet Green?  We certainly hope so.  Rachelle, we think 2010 is your year  – go for it.

Prince Albert II of Monaco.  For this modest royal, actions speak louder than words.  The first head of state to reach the North Pole, Prince Albert loves the outdoors and this year set sustainable practices in place in Monaco.  That’s a use of power and authority we can respect.  Albert’s competed in 5 Olympics on Monaco’s bobsled team, explored the Russian Arctic, and is passionate about ocean conservation – the Mediterranean Sea’s outside his front door!  The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation focuses on climate change, biodiversity and water management.    Prince Albert II, you’ve done a lot, and we know you won’t stop.  Thank you and let them eat local!
